Bringing this post back around bc I just realised I was almost 100% with this theory (which, to be fair, it wasn't a super far out there theory. But still)!

The attack that caused the cut didn't kill Kudou bc AfO had to be a petty dramatic bitch n drag it out, but you can see the jagged edge of the cut peeking out from under Kudou's nose in their final interaction

Now, with Baku'a uncanny resemblance to Kudou being a focus of AfO's in the past couple chapters, how crazy would it be if Baku got a matching scar added to his collection?? It would make the resemblance to Kudou even worse n drive AfO fucking insane lmao

So like. I can't be the only one thinking about 2nd's scar right? It's big and jagged and adds to his distinction from Baku features nicely, but I noticed smth while reading and now I have a thought

Like that bad boy stretches across his entire face. It's kinda hard to miss, right?

But when we see him n 3rd recounting their first meeting with the Original it looks like he hasn't gotten the scar yet

Like, if he had it in that first pic we'd be able to see it cross his nose and trail above the eyebrow. And yea, it could be stylistic choices or visual effects (particularly in the second pic) that are the cause for this, but here's where my thought comes in.

What if that scar was caused by his final showdown with AfO, and was the killing blow that ended him? Yea we've seen other characters with nasty looking facial scars, and some of them are pretty big and mean lookin, too.

But this scar just seems like someone was trying to keep him down for good, y'know? A lucky shot right between the eyes, going from jawline to hairline, and thick enough to show it wasn't just a little kitten scratch.

Like could he have possibly gotten it from any fight after meeting the Original? Sure. They said so themselves they lived during the height of AfO's power, during the roughest parts of quirk history. They've no doubt been in a lot of bad situations and the scar could be no more than a nod to that.

But I really like the thought of it being his last wound, his last hit before he was downed for good. He even said himself that winning in this fight meant living on, and losing meant he'd die trying, and I dunno. Maybe I'm just a dramatic bitch, but I really like the thought of him living in this afterlife with a constant reminder that he gave his best in his last fight, but that wasn't quite enough to see him through it.

(That and everyone knows scars are better when they have a loaded history behind them lmao)

It's basically a "One For All versus All For One" in this chapter.

There's an exchange between Deku and All For One right before a confrontation with Yoichi.

MHA major manga spoilers don't read if you're not caught up dummy <3

So Toga dying is really disappointing. I've still got the Cope disease of Maybe She'll Survive Somehow but lbr no she ain't. It's disappointing for a few reasons.

1. Bad people are bad and cannot be redeemed.

Toga never chose a villain name because she doesn't want to be a villain, she just wants to be her normal self but in doing so (likely because of her quirk) she's ostracized and forced to be a villain. Because of how she's treated and responded to, she can only ever be a villain or locked away like a villain. This feels particularly painful when the homeroom teacher for class 1B literally uses a blood based quirk (granted his own blood but you see my point). There are people who COULD help but but because Toga is a villain she can't get any kind of actual help - something she has never actually received in her life. If the world says you're bad, you are and you can't get better, so die.

2. Bury Your Gays

I don't want to go into it too much but. Yeah great we've got a crazy bisexual who's stalker like and obsessed with the people she's attracted to who dies the literal minute she finds someone willing to listen to her. Toga has always been bi coded, but to effectively have Uraraka show interest in a woman JUST for them both to end up on death's door and it to be "one of them has to die now" feels a little bullshit, especially considering

3. Queerness in MHA

Before saying this I want to preface, I like this series, I think it's a great tribute to both shonen and Superhero comics. But also, if you look at the list of (confirmed) queer characters in the series, you have Magna, Toga, Tiger, Ochako (only confirmed so a love interest could die), and Mineta. There's a good chance I'm missing some so don't be afraid to correct me if I did! Anyway of that list only Ochako and Tiger are positively portrayed. Toga and Magna are literally both members of a group called "The League of Villains," and Mineta is so constantly portrayed as creepy and weird that he takes the perverted character archetype to a point of uncomfortable. So you're left with Tiger and Ochako, the latter has only shown a romantic interest in Deku up to this point, and the former you have to read extended material to know he's trans, as in the actual series it's only implied to be the case because he's the only man in an otherwise all female group.

To put it another way, the only openly queer, non villain who does not endure Bury Your Gays is arguably the most hated character in the entire series.

All of this is to say that Toga dying feels like a slap in the face. She's a character defined by simply wanting to be accepted and loved. Her own parents said she came out wrong to her face. Doctors told her she was broken. Other parents asked her why she couldn't be normal. You know what those all have in common?

Adults are telling this queer child to stop acting like herself and just be normal. Scenes of people her age responding like this to her only pop up after she's started pulling a knife on them and screaming she's in love with them. What chance did she actually have to adjust to a normal life?

She had one friend who she understood, and he died. Even after a series of saying she wants people, the second it actually happens, it's happening because she's a threat and she can't trust others enough to be vulnerable.

She just wanted to be loved, and her reward is no chances at redemption and the bitter reality of dying moments after getting it.
